Working towards a healthy tree canopy
of 30% or higher in Urban areas
Implement accelerated tree plantings in cities to increase their tree canopy to a healthy level of higher than 30% with a 5 year forestry plan.
(30/60 plan).
Share our learnings with actionable plan templates.
Work towards a commercial franchise model and scale with local forestry partners.
Work towards strategic policy shift to implement a 30/60 tree plan nationally for all urban areas.
To prevent additional deficit work towards making trees mandatory, every 30 ft., every time a new sidewalk is created.
Excerpt from Berkeley Earth Report 2023:
"We now consider there to be a 90% chance that 2023 has an annual-average temperature anomaly more than 1.5°C/2.7°F above the 1850-1900 average.
Unless sharp reductions in man-made greenhouse gas emissions occur soon, the long term average is likely to pass 1.5C during the 2030s."
Human body works perfectly at 98.6F. Anything higher than 100 is considered fever. And if there is no medical intervention, interconnected body organs start failing. That is equivalent to 1.5C rise for planet. At current trajectory, we are likely to hit 3C by the end of century.
"We can air-condition our houses and offices and feel good about ourselves. But we’re not going to air-condition the ocean. We’re not going to air-condition the forests. We’re not going to air-condition the wheat fields. Crops have thermal limits, and in this kind of extreme heat, they die just like people do. We’re also not going to air-condition all the other things living on the planet that also suffer under extreme heat. It’s not just about us.
...Life on Earth is like a finely calibrated machine, one that has been built by evolution to work very well within its design parameters. Heat breaks that machine in a fundamental way."
